George Orwell in “1984”
A week ago, I finished the masterpiece ‘1984’ written by George Orwell. I found it interesting, with interesting as an understatement, because Orwell descripes a very detailed picture of how to stay in power in a totalitarian state. At the other side, it was frightening because it proves how inhuman and narrow such a state can be and because it proves that it’s possible.
I don’t understand why the rulers want this world. The whole world is contructed so they can have power (forever). But why should power add value? Even the party members at the top don’t have much quality of life. The only thing they reach, is that millions of people are born, live a life of very low quality and die. For me, life seems already existentially meaningless, but with such a life, you cannot even create a sense of meaning.
I certainly think George Orwell did a good thing by writing this book because he showed that a totalitarian state is very undesirable and that we have to do everything in order to prevent it. People are more alert and critical.
After reading the book, I searched the title of the book on Google News and found articles about how the book sales of ‘1984’ increased when Trump became president. This fact shows that, even though the book was written in 1948, it still has a current value. Also the terms are still used to easily clarify what is meant whitout having to give a full explanation.
Thank you, George Orwell for this timeless masterpiece and to the readers of this article I want to say that ‘1984’ is certainly worth reading.
